Citedness scores for filtering information and ranking search results

There are many options available to savvy searchers to help focus topical searches. These include limiting the search to one or more specific fields, such as title, descriptor or abstract in fulltext databases to eliminate items where the search term(s) occur only in the full-text, often just mentioned in passing. This article looks at systems that have a value-added information element that shows users which documents are the most cited.

In this paper, we consider collaborative filtering as a ranking problem. We present a method which uses Maximum Margin Matrix Factorization and optimizes ranking instead of rating. We employ structured output prediction to optimize for specific non-uniform ranking scores. Experimental results show that our method gives very good ranking scores and scales well on collaborative filtering tasks.
